Why Intercept for girls?
Girls are tough. And so is adolescence.
Intercept helps young girls and their families get through growing up.
Our Intercept program is a journey of discovery for girls and their families. We disrupt old routines, and build new habits. We encourage peer connection, and create safe space to take positive risks, and learn. We help families and grow the confidence to cope.
No phones.
No social media.
No distractions.
Just her and her crew.
Plus two caring instructors and the beautiful Boundary Waters.
This is a recipe for success.
Your daughter gets a break out there.
You get a break back at home.
Our all-girls courses create a supportive, inclusive environment for young women to lead and embrace challenge without judgement. Our instructors are role models, facilitating skill-building to cope with adversity back at home. Girls are invited to reflect on who they are, what they stand for, and where they want to go. Back at home, while their daughters are on course, families are engaged with a curriculum just for them.
Intercept doesn’t just interrupt, it builds skills for life:
- cultivates communication
- develops decision-making
- strengthens interpersonal relationships
- connects peers
- provides family resources
- increases confidence
- inspires hope
It all starts with compassion. At Outward Bound, our mission is to change lives through challenge and discovery. Intercept is the heart of this mission. Voyageur is the only Outward Bound school in the world that delivers Intercept, and we are proud to provide this one-of-a-kind challenge and discovery program for girls and their families.
We want girls to thrive. For 60 years, Voyageur Outward Bound has helped young people develop skills for success. Our experienced instructors help teens, young adults and families find healthier ways to interact with one another and their communities. We were the first Outward Bound school to do an all girls course back in 1965, and we still recognize the value in that today.
We provide a continuum of care. Intercept supports students and families before, during and after the expedition. Each Intercept program concludes with an intensive family conference and workshop to unpack the intercept experience and apply its lessons to everyday life. Our Intercept students and families walk away with a new outlook, new skills and plan for success.
“I learned how to do what I can, then let go of what I can’t control… to see failure as a learning opportunity, not letting everyone else down… I feel like I’ve never been a more authentic version of myself, and to be myself so unabashedly and still be accepted and loved… it was encouraging beyond words… to know that I don’t have to put on a front or fake happiness, and others still care, it means so, so much. It was truly life changing. I have more faith and trust in myself than ever before, and I know that I can do the impossible.”
-Ciera, Intercept Alum
“My daughter developed a lot of pride and confidence. There were other kids struggling with a lot of issues at home. She could connect with people that in the past she would have judged. That one was huge – connecting with people she would have avoided before. It broadened her capacity to realize differences in the world.. and she has more acceptance for herself. She thought she saw terrible things in herself, and she learned they aren’t so terrible… It was important for her to be compassionate with people who were suffering too.”
