Hike through the beautiful Superior National Forest, full of quaking aspen, birch and maple trees. The forest includes the Superior Hiking Trail, a 310 mile trail that connects Duluth, MN to the U.S.-Canada border along the varied ridges of the Sawtooth Mountains overlooking the vastness of Lake Superior. Cross rivers such as the Gooseberry and Temperance, which cascade over huge rapids on their final descent to Lake Superior, and enjoy a day of climbing on sheer cliffs along the lakeshore or high atop Carlton Peak.
Outward Bound students may see wildlife ranging from moose to bald eagles to wolves in this 3.9 million acre forest. Northern Minnesota has the largest population of gray wolves in the lower 48 states, with approximately 300-400 wolves within the boundaries of the Superior National Forest.
